The final rounds of the Bermuda Amateur Match Play Championships were completed at The Mid Ocean Club yesterday under extremely challenging conditions. Following the heavy rain and thunderstorms that lashed the island around 5.00am, most of the rain had cleared out by the time the first matches teed off.
The Ladies & Men’s Championship flights started on time at 7:20am and 7:28am respectively for their 36 hole final. The conditions were reasonable with WSW winds of 18-20 knots but with a forecast of gale force winds by the afternoon there was always doubt about getting the rounds completed.
By the time other flights teed off at 11:20am the conditions were already beginning to deteriorate with 27 – 35 knot winds and it wasn’t long before we were experiencing 34 knots gusting to 45. However, despite the conditions all rounds were completed and the title of Ladies champion was awarded to Ebonie Burgess and the Men’s champion title went to Fraser Hunt.
